I've hit their customer support about this, they're nice but unfortunately not very useful, just telling me to use older versions(which is a pain and worrisome because of security issues)

It crashes on start, I've tried reinstalling, i've uninstalled using revo uninstaller and their ExpressVPN clean tool. Also tried restarting their service in the control panel. Nothing has worked.

Here's what happens:

Possible interference from AV client?  Try temporarily disabling any AV or anti-malware you have (if you're comfortable with that and you're confident of the download source you got the ExpressVPN client from) and launch it.

Also, if you've installed the latest Win10 update it's possible ExpressVPN is another thing that's borked.

Tried it even with malwarebytes disabled, nothing. And are you sure? It wasn't working even before the update.

AV clients can sometimes interfere with VPN clients.  Just occasionally.  Also, if it wasn't working before the Win10 update, the update isn't a likely culprit then.

See any errors in your event viewer from when you tried to launch the client?

Hmm yea.. A bunch of these:

The description for Event ID 0 from source SynTPEnhService cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

Well, SynTP is Synaptics touchpad I think.

When you installed the ExpressVPN client, did you launch the install exe as Administrator?  Try that after uninstalling with their cleanup tool.  Basically your error looks like the client's trying to do things that Windows doesn't believe it has permissions for, or it's acting in a suspicious manner according to Windows.  https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/18b8kx07.aspx

If that doesn't work, see if the ExpressVPN guys will look at the errors specific to the client that you posted.

If they still suck, switch to NordVPN or a provider that will actually respond to you.

Main reason i'm with ExpressVPN is that they are the best VPN solution i've had that can bypass iBoss at my school, NordVPN fails.

I've hit them up, i'll see how they figure it out

  • 2 months later...

I know this is a few months later but I ran into this error recently and found a solution - Remove the folder  %localappdata%\ExpressVPN. I also reinstalled, but when that didn't fix it went a little deeper. Removed the ExpressVPN folder from local app data, rebooted and it's working again.

Hope this helps someone else as this thread was my top google search result :)
