Dell Dimension 2400 CPU Upgrade

I just bought this Dell Dimension 2400 from a garage sale and I found out it has a Celeron processor at 2.40GHz. I was wondering if I could upgrade the processor to a Pentium 4 3.40GHz processor I have lying around. I keep finding random Pentium 4's in my room, haha. If it doesn't work, any processor upgrades available?

Doing a quick google search I found some 2400 with Pentium 4 CPUs.

The Dimension 2400 does support P4s, but it only supports socket 478 chips. Any LGA775 P4s won't work. How much did you pay for the machine?

They're old, but they're still useful for things like music machines, basic web browsing, etc.

It's not about how old they are, it's about how useful they are. I use a Pentium II as a DVD player to this day. Is it old? Sure. Is it useful? Definitely. P4s are perfectly fine CPUs to use. When was the last time you actually used one?

Wasn't the pentium 4 one of the worst CPUs ever released compared to others at the time?

Is the PC just for fun or were you going to actually do something with it? You could just toss it in and see what happens?

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I did toss it in and now it will not power on. The power light is just staying orange. I changed the CPU back to the celeron and it will not turn on now.
