Hi, I'm new to the hardware Part of computers so this may sound stupid.

Pc specs.

Cpu: Amd bulldozer fx4170

Motherboard: MSI 760GM-P23

Gpu: AMD Readon HD 6670

Psu: 230w

HDD: 2TB

I recently upgraded my CPU cooler to a h100i and added 5 new corsair AF120(3) and SP120(2).

When i tried to turn my pc on after I installed the parts the fans powered on but there was nothing that came up on screen and my monitors didn't receive any signal.

I took it to a shop to see what was wrong with it and they said i had blew the motherboard.

I looked into somethings and seen that it could be the Motherboard and also the PSU has not got enough watt for the pc.

This is why I am posting a forum to see what parts i should get for as cheap as possible.

so I am looking for a new Motherboard and a new PSU.

Could you please recommend parts that I can get for as cheap as possible?.

Thanks.

The PSU is too weak. Get a 500 watt. And why do you have a FX 4170 with a H100?

Yeah iknow the PSU is way too weak, Thats why I am getting a new one. I looked on some PSU calculator websites and it said it would be around the 300w on 90% load so I was looking for a 400w PSU.

But i will look at 500w PSU and I have a h100i more for the silent and that I may upgrade in the future.

Do you know how I will check to see if i have blowen my Mobo or will it probably be the PSU ?

Thanks for the replys!!

He also put a h100i and a whole bunch of corsair fans in that same system. Also from what I've seen the cx line is reasonably priced, as are most XFX power supplies.

Questions that came to my mind is did u make sure you were static free when you changed the cooler and did you clean off and apply new thermal compound. Also, how did u clean the compound off if u did?

But anyway, if you want a good board that has good features and has a better chance of not failing I would spend maybe at least $100 or more on a mobo. If you want to go cheap then I would suggest anything that applys to your needs from Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, or ASRock. Those r my personal preferences. Go for the features then for the looks as in which one fits with your machine color wise and that you think looks good.

They aren't expensive. I have the 430 watt semi-modular one and it was $49, and the next Seasonic was a lot more expensive.

Dose the am3+ socket fit the 700 chipset and the 900 chipset?

Yes it does. Any board you buy that says "AM3+ 125w Ready" should work fine. I believe the "990fx" chipset is probably the one you want to go for.

I would recommend the GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 as there are much more upgrade options for about $140 on Amazon at the moment

I know there are cheaper chipsets available but please get a 990FX board.

They are way better by only paying 10-20% more, looking at the cheapest models.

I would also go with the gigabyte GA 990FX UD3. Cheap but not the crapy cheap more the attractive price cheap :D

No need i read the label wrong, I have a 500w PSU already in the computer but the same issue is happening!!!

It still could be PSU. How old is it? Older PSUs without 80+ rating don't always give enough juice. So getting newer, 80+ rated psu with semi-modular cables will keep you happy until ATX standart is changed. Do you have other working system to test HDD and GPU to rule them out? Maybe add ram to that. And CPU so you could tell if its mobos fault.
