Yep, should be fixed.

Spec of my desktop

  • 120GB of SSD 30GB distributed to ubuntu
  • 1TB of HDD
  • i7 8700
  • 8GB of RAM
  • GTX 1060 (EVGA single fan reference design edition)

This is the error message I keep getting:

Also I cannot open system settings. If I do, above screen shows up.

I did a quick google search it says it is the nouveau drivers fails to boot falcon on nvidia 1060s.

So how do I proceed from here?

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

Can you open a terminal? If so, install the proprietary driver:

sudo apt install nvidia-390

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

You don't need to uninstall the nouveau driver to use the proprietary one, to avoid confusion I'd keep it.

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

right now whenever I click software updater it tells me this:

but at the same time when I click settings, I can see that I am already using the proprietary driver from nvidia.

am I good to go?

The update issue should be unrelated, if you don't get crashes anymore I would say it's problem solved. If you can't update despite having a working internet connection, try running

sudo apt update

and post the output.
