so I posted something previous about my 970 only having one of the fans working fine and with temps reaching 80c.

Things I tried:

replace thermal paste - did nothing.. I used Cooler Master IC Value

removed fan and taped an 80mm molex fan on the broken fan - did nothing. i even sealed it tight and properly with electrical tape

remove side panel - did nothing card is still climbing to 80c

place fan next to problem fan to force air into it - did nothing

adjust fan curve - does nothing past 55% fan speed. at 70% it sounds like a leaf blower

rakk-marug-3.jpg.df6c69e7cad32390cfb1640cc5656fbe.jpg

here is a pic of my case from the site i bought it from. it has an acrylic side panel and its an matx case. the fans i have are 2 intakes in the front and 2 exhaust in the back and at the top.

What else can i do make my card cooler? I am aware that aftermarket coolers exist but I cant get my hands on one of those in my place

I'm worried using it at 80c constantly is gonna end up killing it faster. or this is a problem with acx 2.0 coolers in general?

If it's an EVGA, you can probably RMA it under factory warranty. You probably can end up killing it if one of the fans isn't working, specially if it's the VRM-controlled FAN. Are you sure one of them isn't working, does it attempt to start? Can you nudge it so it starts running?

i would suggest perhaps a slightly better thermal paste? but then again, i sort of feel like the temperature is just not being read properly. do you have access to any physical means of temperature readouts?

its secondhand so RMA isn't an option. It starts up then stops and starts up again and it just repeats this even until the fan speed is at 60%. I tried nudging it to start before but it still keeps on happening.

I can't cash out on better thermal paste, sadly. I really don't have anything to view temps besides afterburner. but it couldn't be wrong readings because I had a 1050 before and that card never reached above 70c.. maybe it could be

no i am more thinking what if the temperature sensor on the card is dead?

that and maybe try undervolting it just a little bit.

Hmm, weird. Try plugging the fans into opposite fan slots. If that doesn't work, send it off to EVGA for a warranty repair. If the warranty expired, you might want to look into this. Specifically the 2 noctua fans. Proceed at your own risk and ONLY if this is a last resort. Don't keep your card at 80c for long periods of time.

You can put in a guest RMA if it's secondhand, you just need the invoice.

i got the card kinda cheap so there weren't anything the seller also included so no invoice and accessories.

not sure because on idle loads its 40c (still high) and when i open up a game i can see it slowly climb up to 80c and i haven't tried undervolting so i might do that but not sure how much volts to lessen it by

I don't have the invoice for a warranty and shipping's gonna cost me a lot from where i am. I saw that but I don't have any more spare decent 90mm fans (i think 120 is too big for this card)

Mount a fan or two on top of the PSU shroud to blow directly onto the GPU. My brother has his Gigabyte Xtreme Gaming 980ti in an Inwin 303 case with the bottom fans blowing directly up at the GPU, and it runs so damn cool its crazy.

that wouldn't help me much i think. I know my case has mounting for the fans but it doesn't get air from anywhere. There is no perforations in the bottom of the case for air to pass through unlike the Inwin 303. The only intake in the bottom is already taken up by the power supply

I’d prolly get another cooler for the card, plenty around.

Ever blower cards don’t run that, Too much exhaust for that case but not knowing the cpu cooler and speed fans.

If having the fans turned up on the gpu are an issue, it’s prolly best just to let it burn.

i tried lowering the power limit in after burner along with the temp limit to around 68c and it did its best to stay within 68c only going up to 72c at times. I tested it out in pubg (my most gpu intensive game on hand) and at 99% gpu usage its on 68c... is running it thisl low bad for the card?Capture.PNG.3e3196f65004a30eda6a1f22e1b26e68.PNG

that's one of my options but I can't get my hands on accelero coolers only deepcool vga coolers but I'm not sure if they will fit a gtx 970 because when I checked the specs they have on their sites it shows compatibility on GeForce 8xxxx series cards...
