Ryzen 5 2600X a worthy upgrade from i5 6600k?

Been running an i5 6600k clocked at 4.5Ghz for games until I bought a GoPro Hero 5. I'm starting to use the CPU more and more and I'm probably asking a dumb question and should just go for it

So you're editing videos more and more? Then yes, though look for the older 1600 as well. Performance difference isnt that big, but could be noticeably cheaper.

Yes that is my case. The 1600X is almost priced the same as 2600 non X (at least here in my place).

how about non-X models? You already have a cooler, so as long as you use an AM4 bracket, the box cooler doesnt matter.

I have a Cryorig H7 tho. I'm not sure if Cryorig will provide the bracket for free (shipping and all). If not, it would probably cost me shipping so I might just use that money for a better cooler.

1600X out of the game then. How much cheaper is 1600 to a 2600x?

Just get a 7700k, way cheaper and will out perform the 2600X/1600X in games.

the wraith spire cooler that ships with the 2600x isn't that bad.  but if your going to try to push it to the max right away  then i guess you will need to get a better option

I guess OP's talking about editing videos because he mentioned a 4K GoPro camera? too bad 7700k gets humiliated in video editing.

For what I've seen in most YouTube videos, overclocking the 2600X doesn't yield huge gains in performance so I might just run it stock and let XFR 2.0 take control.

Then I'd get the 2600x if I were you. $48 isnt all that much and taking off the cooler from the 6600k leaves that unusable and reduces resale value, if you plan on selling it.

Yup, my CPU and Motherboard is already posted in a marketplace. Lets see if I have enough bucks to throw in a beefier cooler.

Yep, 6 cores, 6 threads. The 7700k is 4 cores, 8 threads.

A 7700k is a bad idea, but an 8600k is a pretty good option for you. How much price difference is there where you live? I'm only seeing a $10 difference on Amazon for me, so I'd go for that.

Look, 8600k is quite a lot more costly to go for, since it needs a Z370 mobo, good cooling, and possibly a delid. You should have recommended an 8700 in that regard.

They have a Z270 motherboard, get a 7700k. Will reck any Ryzen in gaming, and bust out video editing. Without having to switch platforms.

fps fall?  from what i have seen he will be the same in most games with improved fps in some newer games.  And op seems to be looking for an editing machine which ryzen should do him well.  If his rig was pure gaming i would agree to go intel but as . . .

I get your point now and I think its worth considering. However I'm not so sure if my CPU + the cash I'm willing to use will cover up the price of that 7700k. I had plans for selling my current CPU and Motherboard and add just a little more for a Ryzen platform which costs considerably cheaper than Intel's.

Why I said for Premier, as Ryzen and Premier don't play well together.

Sure it can. Ryzen has issue with Premier, has since launch and has never been addressed. Watch the whole video.
