You'll learn a lot more if you do it yourself, especially since you mention you don't have a lot of experience.

Intel Ark is usually a good place to start: https://ark.intel.com/

Crystal: CPU: i7 7700K | Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z270F | RAM: GSkill 16 GB@3200MHz | GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti FE | Case: Corsair Crystal 570X (black) | PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 1000W | Monitor: Asus VG248QE 24"

Laptop: Dell XPS 13 9370 | CPU: i5 10510U | RAM: 16 GB

Server: CPU: i5 4690k | RAM: 16 GB | Case: Corsair Graphite 760T White | Storage: 19 TB

And that doesn't help you in any way either,

Yes, and?
Just look for the CPU Reviews on Sites like Anandtech and so.

Its not hard to find Information.

Just takes effort on your side to get the knowledge.

Oh and I don't need that, I know all that and where to look, wich isn't hard to find anyway...

And your request is wrong anyway.

Because you have to look up the Motherboard anyway and look at what CPUs it supports.

Especially with cheaper Boards its fairly common that they only support low to mid range TDP CPUs.

Some Boards only support like 65W TDP CPU, putting a 95W TDP CPU in there will damage the Board long term, in short term there will be problems with stability and/or Performance.

Its this shit that causes much trouble for AMD FX users, because someone used a shitty board that doesn't support the used CPU, it throttles and causes even more Problems.

So even with that knowledge, its useless. Especially in the AMD Region!

Becuse there is nothing stopping anyone from doing an AMD FX Motherboard with a VIA K8T800 Chipset, except for the availability of the Chipset.

And also there is nothing stopping anyone from doing a Socke 754/939 or 940 Board with an AMD 990FX Chipset.

On some AM2 Boards, you can even use Phenom II CPUs, on most you can't...

So we're back to the beginning and that you have to look at the CPU Support List of the Motherboard in Front of you!!

There is no easy way around or Cheat sheet.

Ok, I'll tell you but for god's sake don't be one those pushy salesmen that recommend to a new guy that he gets a completely new system while in actuality the guy is just looking for a simple upgrade for gaming with that being said let us begin:

LGA1366 (aka X58) motherboards support DDR3 ram and first gen core i7 processors these are the (i7-920, i7-930, i7-940, i7-950, i7-960,  i7-970, i7-980) including the extreme edition first gen core i7 processors which are the (i7-965, i7-975, i7-980X, and the i7-990X).

moving on to the second gen and third gen core i7, i5, and even i3 processors:

LGA1155 (aka Z77, H77, B75, H67, B65, etc.) motherboards support DD3 ram, second gen core i3, i5, and i7 processors as mentioned below.

core i3  2nd gen (i3-2100, i3-2120, and the i3-2130) processors.

core i3 3rd gen (i3-3220, i3-3225, i3-3240, i3-3245, and i3-3250).

i5 2nd gen (i5-2300, i5-2310, i5-2320, i5-2400, i5-2500, i5-2500k) hint: K denotes that it is overclockable and meant for enthusiasts. The S, T, and P variants of the processors have lower clock speeds to reduce power consumption and heat output aka TDP. Continuing onwards

i5 3rd gen (i5-3330, i5-3340, i5-3350, i5-3450, i5-3470, i5-3550, i5-3570, i5-3570k, i7-3770, i7-3770k).

i7 2nd gen (i7-2600, and i7-2600k).

i7 3rd gen ( i7-3770, i7-3770k).

Again (not to sound like a broken tape recorder)  the processors mentioned above work the LGA1155 motherboards. Hint: when purchasing a processor (often comes with a stock heatsink) you will see a sticker on the box saying what socket it is compatible with e.g. LGAXXXX.

The theme is almost the same for the 4th gen core processors which see the reintroduction of the extreme edition processors. Hint: the 4th gen extreme edition processors work with the LGA2011 socket (aka X79 motherboard) while the mainstream core i7 work on the LGA1150 socket (Z97, H97, Z87, H87, AND B85 motherboards). This is the first time (I think) Intel splits its mainstream platform (aka LGA1150) from its enthusiast platform (aka LGA2011).

I'd love to continue but I'm very tired and I got some pirated movies (ahem...black panther) to download so...hope this helps and gives an idea of what's what and how to go about things. There still is the 5th gen, 6th gen, 7th gen, and now 8th gen core processors to cover and of course who can forget AMD (god bless them for providing competition) here are some resources from Linus (god bless his soul) and from Intel themselves to help you out:

History of Intel processors

History of AMD CPUs

History of the motherboard

and of course, last but not least ark intel:

https://ark.intel.com/#@Processors

with all that being said good luck and now I will exit like a ninja .

Motherboard: Asus Z97-Deluxe, Processor: Intel i7-4790K@4.3GHz@1.150Volts, GPU: Asus ROG GTX980 Matrix (with a NZXT G10 bracket and a nzxt x41 AIO liquid cooler), Ram: Kingston HyperX 32GB 1866MHz CL10, PSU: Corsair Hx1200i, Storage: 1TB Seagate SSHD with a Kingston HyperX Fury 240GB SSD, Display: BenQ XL2411Z, Keyboard: Corsair K70 RGB, Mouse: Razer Deathadder chroma.
