hey guys i was wondering Intel's bean using PCI-E 3.0 since its Ivy Bridge so why AMD still stuck with PCI-E 2.0 with its CPUs while its Graphics Cards comes with the PCI-E 3.0 support. So if we are Using an AMD system which works with PCI-E 2.0 and pair it with the new 7xxx series or R7 or R9 series Cards which supports PIC 3.0 we will be using them on PCI-E 2.0. So how much difference there will be using the same card on both platforms.

for e.g

Intel I5-4670k with R9-280X VS FX-8320 with R9-280X.

Intel has 16 lanes of PCIe 3.0 and AMD has 32 lanes of PCIe 2.0.  That's exactly the same thing.

The 990FX platform is also like 3 years old.  Their newer FM2+ boards have PCIe 3.0.  Although it doesn't matter.  The most powerful graphics card in the world is nowhere close to maxing out PCIe 2.0 x8 (PCIe 3.0 x4).

So if we crossfire 2 cards using 1 @ PCI-E 2.0 16x and other with PCI-E 2.0 8x will perform same as 2 crossfire cards @ PCI-E 2.0 16x

The board has to support CFX x16/x16.

Expansion Slots

3 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (dual x16 or x16/x8/x8) *1
1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (x4 mode, black)

This is from my mobo: Link.
