This is a good workstation/video editing build, but if it's for gaming, I'd go with a cheaper CPU, cheaper power supply, only 8 GB RAM and then put the money into a GTX 1070 Ti.

PC Build: R5-1600.  Scythe Mugen 5.  GTX 1060.  120 GB SSD.  1 TB HDD.  FDD Mini C.  8 GB RAM (3000 MHz).  Be Quiet Pure Wings 2.  Capstone-550.  Deepcool 350 RGB.

Peripherals: Qisan Magicforce (80%) w/ Gateron Blues.  Razer Naga Chroma.  Lenovo 24" 1440p IPS.  PS4 Controller.

Audio: Focusrite (Solo, 2nd), SM57, Triton Fethead, AKG c214, Sennheiser HD598's, ATH-M50x, AKG K240, Novation Launchkey

Wishlist: MP S-87, iPad, Yamaha HS5's, more storage

Get him to buy you a good monitor or a good graphics card.  That will make more of a difference in games than a high-end CPU

if you're only gaming on a 60 hz monitor, you can use an i3-8100 and get the same exact performance.

sorry for a lot of short replies, but there's two enthusiast gaming routes you can go:

high refresh rate: 144 hz monitor.  game will perform super-smooth and responsive.  great for fast pace and online games.  in this case, cpu matters as much as gpu

high image quality: a 4k 60 hz display w/ ips panel.  cpu doesn't matter that much, but a really good graphics card is needed to power it.  great for atmospheric games

will the 1070 ti be enough for the 4k 60 hz?

you would have to lower some settings.  or you could game at a custom resolution that's somewhere between 1440p and 4k.

sorry if i didnt emphasize this, but 4k is very demanding.  you will need to compromise somewhere, but at least with a good monitor of some kind you are able to fully see what your gpu and cpu are putting out

BUILD SOMETHING LIKE THIS....

ACCORDING TO WHAT I HV OBSERVED.....8600K PERFOMS SIMILAR TO THAT OF AN 8700K WHEN IT COMES TO GAMING....

I HV EVEN ADDED IN A GTX 1080...
