SSD upgrade - Internal vs External

I have a Razer Blade with 250gb of internal storage.

I need more for my game library.

I'm choosing between a DIY external SSD (500gb with usb 3.1 interface) or replacing the internal NVME SSD with larger one.

which one should be the best overall option?

 

if I replaced the stock NVME, I won't be able to use it as an external SSD since it needs to a SATA.

Well replacing the drive would solve the problem but at a greater cost, since good NVMe drives are still expensive.

So if you're using the external drive only for gaming and nerfing the noobs around you, I'd go for an external solution.

I prefer the external route. It's easier to do as you dont need to take the laptop apart and deal with OS installation problems.
