Ok, I hope people don't mind me posting this here as I wasn't sure where else to post this.

I'm in need of a surge protector with roughly 10-12 plugins and I know absolutely nada about surge protectors and UPS.
I'd probably prefer to have 2 rows of plugins facing outward on opposite sides as I'll likely have 3-4 3.5" externals plugged in along with my desktop PC, Phillips Hue hub, Modem/Router combo, a light and whatever else I'll need to plug in.

I'm not sure if I need a UPS. I'd prefer to spend only $50-$100 CAD. Typically the power doesn't cut out randomly where I live, usually only if there's extreme weather such as a snowfall or someone in the house decides to use too much power in one general area and a breaker pops. Having said that, I have had my desktop shut off 5x in one day before, but that's extremely rare. I can usually go a full year with the power cutting out maybe once or twice. So I don't know if I should consider a UPS.

What do you guys recommend? Looking to buy asap. If you don't know what I should buy but have some general tips to steer me in the right direction, I'm fine with that as well.

A decent quality surge protector would be the bare minimum. Good brand such as GE, APC, Philphs, Tripplite, Bellini Belkin and such would be ones to look for.

My usual go to recommendation would be this one from APC.

Any recommendations of an affordable UPS that is capable of delivering DC energy to power a router and usb devices?

Most UPS units are AC based you can get mini DC based UPS units but they aren’t as common.

Pico UPS allows you to make a custom sized DC to DC UPS.

Looks pretty ancient. People still use Coax, DSL and wired telephone lines? Why's that your "usual" recommendation?

See photo: I actually use an older surge protector for my TV that I tried to use with my computer gear today because it has more plugins..... BUT I think It's only intended to be used with TV gear such as VCRs/DVD/CD players etc., hence the labeling. I'm not sure if it makes a difference? When I plugged my computer gear into this surge protector, my computer would boot, but my monitor would enter "low power saving mode" even when I tried two different plugins for my monitor and I also tried plugging it into my original surge protector with no luck.

So I shut my computer down and I'm back to using the other surge protector with less plugins and everything is fine. I'm not going to trust that other surge protector with externals and my computer gear if it can't power on a monitor lol.

That’s what makes it good since you have all possible options for surge protection if needed.

The labeling doesn’t matter it makes no difference at all.

For a regular UPS what’s your system specs and devices you plan to power.

If you are gonna wire up a router, don’t see why you wouldn’t want the coaxial cable in there too.

Gonna need an power strip to wire up 12 things for that.

Normaly some outlets do protections while the others do backup and protection. Both have a power limitation.

I only use mine for my main pc, the main monitor, router and modem. Works like a charm.

Hmm, then why does the surge protector in my photo not play nice with my computer? The other surge protector I'm using works and It's just some cheapo $10 surge protector that you can find any where.

It's a modem/router combo that my ISP (Telus) supplied to me. It plugs into the surge protector and that's it. I don't know what I'd use a coax cable for in this situation? I'm not even sure why coax exists.

In the past I used routers, but there's really no need because my ISP doesn't charge me for the modem/router and I get what I'm paying for 150 up/down. Routers use coax?

Well there has to be some connection from the line to my house. In this county, that’s coaxial.

Any surge protector will do it's job no problem as for a UPS your system won't draw over 500W so something like this will provide enough overhead including peripherals and networking equipment.
