As the title suggests, I'm going to finally get an SSD before the end of Wednesday, this week and I just need some ideas.

I've heard that it's better to just start from scratch, instead of copying all of the files from my old drive to the new SSD.

Any thoughts? Tips/Tricks are also welcome. Very excited since I've never actually owned an SSD for my own good. (I know, I'm pretty late to the party) Thanks in advance!

Don't copy files from the hard drive. Instead, follow this process.

1. Take all important files and put them on an external hard drive.

2. Get a bootable USB with the installation of windows 10 ISO.

3. Go into your BIOS and select the USB to boot first.

4. Proceed with all the procedures, and select to install windows on your SSD.

5. Boot into windows and copy all the files onto your hard drive. Only use your SSD for small files and the OS.

Good luck

Another question; brand new SSDs are supposed to be completely formatted and empty, correct? No need to do any preparation, just install the OS?

I'm guessing you have a hard drive already? @Jasun

Yeah, I actually have two. I can just move all of my important files to my second one and just format the first.
