I use the Steam in-game FPS counter for most things, and it's great. It's small and out of the way and I like it. However I need to use something else for pretty much any other game that doesn't have built-in options for it. I have to use GeForce Experience's FPS counter for Origin games, although Overwatch does have its own counter, and other Blizzard stuff really doesn't require a counter.
But the GeForce Experience counter is big and green and ugly, and I can't find any way to mod it. I don't want to use someone else's ugly counter or download yet another monitoring/capturing application like MSI's, I don't want to use the ugly in-game one for many (but not all) Origin games that also includes frivolous information besides FPS, and additionally I don't want a monitoring application that shows a billion different stats from your system.
I just want a small app that will run in the background and only tell the FPS. Is there anything like this or at least a better solution than Steam+GeForce Experience?
China has an army of gamers, PC gaming is on the rise, we have RGB RAM. Why isn't this a thing?

@OP

I'm pretty sure you can make a custom riva overlay. Might as well make it the way you like it.

idk here's a vid I found

op is more concerned about big and yellow likely. If you're on like a 4k screen it' snot so bad but on 1080p it's huge. He probably want s a thin and small grey font that he wont notice but can look at if he notices the game chugging or something.

@Syntaxvgm yes that's the main problem, and FRAPS basically is the predecessor to GeForce Experiencel.
@r4tch3t As I said, the Steam one doesn't overlay onto everything, just Steam stuff. Adding the game to Steam and launching it there might work, but you can't use it for all games and also just don't want to do that.

And that riva thing looks far more involved than what I'm looking for.
I know there's probably nothing out there, but was just wondering if the community would know of anything a little more under the radar

Personally as a streamer, the only one I have found that doesnt make OBS mess up and not recognize the game is Geforce Experience overlay. I have had problems with Fraps ( I own a copy myself), Rivatuner. So I just stick with the Geforce experience FPS counter myself.

RivaTuner is the thing running under MSI Afterburner. And it's less work than you think. For one you can choose to only have fps and nothing else. You can choose and adjust exact location of indicator. And you can adjust color. It's probably 30min tweaking vs trying and testing 10 not-so-common option.

Some which you may test while at it. CAM, Overwolf, Dxtory.
