Liquid or air.
AIO's are great at keeping inital temps down in short bursts, but do remember once an AIO reaches thermal equalibrium, their capacity to cool drops.
Bassicaly, what im saying is, if you use a AIO, and OC ur CPU and do a relativly short burst stability test, stick with a OC, then go on to say do some folding for hours on end, u may find ur system overheating.
Air coolers on the other hand, reach there thermal limit quickly and so what you see within a few minutes is generaly what u get.
Top end air coolers like the Noctua D15, will match or even beat most AIO's. and be quieter at the same time. Its just their bulk that u need to work around.
IMO, if u can fit a big tower air cooler, chose one of those over a AIO, if u cant, then AIO's are worth a look.
If you want any more cooling performance, ull need a custom loop.
