yoyooyoyoyoyooyoyoyoyoyo I need help to choose a CPU for M.U.L.T.I.T.A.S.K.I.N.G. As far as I know: more cores and threads CPU is better for multitasking, more base frequency is better for gaming,BUT can you recommend me CPU anyways?Price: ~250 euros -/+

So many ppl trashtalk about AMD that it's worse than Intel for gaming. But which is better for multitasking?Intel wins again?I was about to buy i5 8600k,but then I saw Ryzen 7 1700,FX octa core...I wonder if AMD 8 core processors are better than intel i5 8th gen or i7 7th gen for programming, network and system administration, multi tasking and so on.I don't care if Intel is 5% or 10% better than AMD on multitasking, just I want to buy some decent CPU with acceptable price

Don't consider AMD FX CPU's. Period. It's old and not as good as either of the other two options.

But the Ryzen 7 1700 is an awesome CPU, does all the gaming I need it to do, multitasking on it is great and even recording/streaming on it goes great.

While yes, in benchmarks you will see the Intel counterparts (8600K.. 8700K.. etc.) beat it, but unless you play certain games that require more CPU performance, you won't notice it. And if you value the CPU's cores more, AMD is more interesting.

But if you're also looking for great price for performance, the new Ryzen 5 2600X is quite interesting. Still quite high per core performance (only beat by the highest end Intel Coffee Lake CPU's), 6 cores, 12 threads.

No, more cores/threads does not in and of itself mean better multitasking.

Establish a budget for the entire system. Then work out a harmonious combination of components that will achieve the optimal system to meed your needs. The right cpu will actual become very clear once you have a budget and a good idea of how the system will be used.

yep,I know that.Just I meant that 3.5 Ghz 8 core/16 threads is better than 4Ghz 6 cores/6 threads for multitasking

Not necessarily. Different cores have different IPC. So a 1GHz core might perform as well or better than a 1.2GHz core of a different architecture.

One must also factor in the characteristics of the software being used. A mix running single or lightly threaded apps may do better on fewer but more powerful cores. OTH a mix of highly multithreaded apps will perform better with more, but less powerful cores.
