Stepped sinewave damage PSU?

Hey guys, I just bought APC Back-UPS 1100VA ( USD $90) for my system. The specs sheet stated that the output from this UPS is stepped sinewave.

Can a stepped sinewave damage my PSU (Seasonic Prime Titanium 650w)?

I've read that PSU with active PFC can be damaged by a stepped sinewave however there are no actual proof of it.

Should I change my UPS to a sinewave one? Costs around $200 ($300) more to get the sinewave one.

Thank you!

How often are you running on battery? Its only stepped sine wave when on battery, and doing it for a few hours a year won't make a difference.

I just finished my Engineering Electrical Systems unit at university last semester. In theory, modified sine wave wont be as efficient as pure sine wave, but it shouldn't damage anything - especially if you have a quality power supply. As far as i can tell, the only damage would be likely to arise from an increased temperature in the PSU - but PSU's rarely seem to overheat.

Also, if you get a power-board with EFI/RFI filtering, it _might_ help to reduce the buzzing. I'm not sure, but what "jose" said makes sense to me.

BtW, i think what duckzilla said about the guarantee was correct, so you'r probably okay even if something does go wrong.

Usually I turn off my pc when there is an outage. However the PSU does emmit a buzzing sound while on battery.
