Playstation storage device swap

Beef Boss

First and foremost, is there a way I can transfer all my game data and stuff from my hard drive to another device so I don't have to re-download everything?

And second, if I were to replace the hard drive with an SSD how much of an improvement generally speaking would it make?

And what are some good brands that make SSD's that aren't overly expensive??

Asus 7700XT Tuf Gaming

AMD 5600x3d

You can use an external hard drive formatted for the PS4 (I'm assuming this is a PS4). https://www.forbes.com/sites/kevinmurnane/2017/09/11/how-to-connect-an-external-hard-drive-to-your-ps4/#505ec05446ec

I was talking about swapping the internal drive with an SSD so it's not using a USB port. I'd rather have it inside my PS4 pro.

Edit: I know I can use an external drive, I just wanted to try and get one for inside so I don't have to use the hard drive.

You should be able to move the game from the external back onto the internal drive as long your account is tied to that PS4. Emphasis on should.

Welp, it's a closed down system so there isn't much you can do.

According to PS4 documentation, you will need a USB device to backup your data to. The process is outlined on their help pages here:

Back up and restore PS4 HDD

As far as which drive you decide to go with, there's nothing wrong with going SSD, it's certainly doable. A lot of users just find that it's not quite cost-effective for the level of performance gain and storage capacity. You've mentioned you're over 500GB in games, which means probably a minimum 1TB storage drive, 2TB if you want ample room to go. So for the price, one option that gives you more capacity & a 5 year warranty while still prioritizing performance would be our FireCuda, a Solid-State Hybrid Drive.

Here is a EuroGamer review on how it jives with the PS4

If you do go this route, just make sure it is the 2.5" version, so it will fit in the PS4.

Good luck, regardless of which route you decide to go in the end!
