I'm planning on getting Ryzen 7 1800x but can't decide on a motherboard but i know for sure i need at least 6 to 8 sata connectors for my hard drives can anyone recommend a board between 150 to 250 canadian dollars.

any brand is fine but i would really prefer an Asus board but if you have a better recommendation let me know this will be a huge upgrade from my haswell i5 4460. As for gpus and such im content with my current gtx 960

if anyone else has recommendations ill take a look at them as welll

so i can have multiple options

You're welcome. Just remember that with that board you'll need a full size (ATX) case, not Micro ATX. :)

Don't waste your money on an 1800X. You can buy a ryzen 7 1700 for cheaper and get about the same performance when overclock

Or you can even get a 2nd gen chip such as the ryzen 7 2700 or ryzen 7 1700

There are a lot of good motherboards out there. I've selected different options from $150 to $250, If you don't know the difference between them something under $200 is more than enough

I think ASUS boards are overpriced and you could get a really good board for less money if you buy from other brand but If you like the aesthetics I listed ASUS options.

Some of them are X370 and some of them are X470, X470 are ryzen 2nd gen compatible right off the box. If you purchase an X370 one you need to update your BIOS so you wanna make sure they allow you to update your BIOS through an USB pendrive or else you'll have to install a 1st gen CPU to update the BIOS.

yes i'm aware i have a brand new case put away that i bought a month ago mid tower that supports up to atx.

I'm downsizing my case from the Corsair Obsidian Series 750D that i got back in 2013 needed smaller so all the cords for the drives can reach rather

use 1 cable to plug into 5 drives without using the second cord to reach the fifth one

my power supply is a corsair 750cx

so all that stuff i'm good on

i'm quite experienced at building computers since i worked in a repair store

i just have a hard time finding what i want

Don't worry that happens to all of us. You can't master everything that's why there are so many different occupations.

So again 1800X is a bad buy It's not a bad chip but for the same money you can get better things.

Either get a cheaper CPU that is just as good and put the leftover funds towers a better GPU, a better motherboard or just get better options.

What's your budget for the whole upgrade and what's the main use of your PC?

just about everything playing games and repairing devices creating my own software to fix computers hence why i went with 1800x i rather have as much power i can get out of it

as for my budget its 5000 dollars but most of it is for high speed storage i was almost thinking of getting the thread ripper but the boards for it are way to high in price

but i found that the 1800x was a better option price wise for my budget this will be my 7th computer build

But you don't need threadripper for just playing games.

Even ryzen 7 It's an 8 core CPU if you don't do anything severely multithreaded you should consider an i7 8700K instead, it matches ryzen chips even in some multithreaded applications and has a much faster single-core speed.

yeah im aware which is why i stayed away from the thread ripper as for intel i had my go with it and i want to give amd another try in the future i am planning on building a new intel

build but that won't be for a long time

If you want to buy ryzen to support AMD It's OK many people will buy Intel anyway so It's good to see more people buying AMD because it has had very bad reputation the last couple of years and the more people buy AMD the less people will buy Intel and Intel will have to make better CPUs to gain market share again.
