2000-2500 usd full set up

Only 1440p >120hz gaming is what I care about, USD currency. Build so far https://pcpartpicker.com/list/knxdmq still waiting for next gen GPU (I can wait until October so it is not an issue). Maximum I will put into this is 2500 usd, but the closer to 2000 the better.

Get a new psu. M12ii is a bit dated, so I would recommend something new like a focus plus gold 650w, which is going for around $90.

 

If you aren't buying the system soon though you should wait. Intel's next cpu lineup might be out by October.

like you said, wait for october (or really november at that point for black friday sales), by this point all the "next gen" annual stuff should be coming out, including gen 9 intel cpu's

 

but economically the best thing to do is to wait for black friday or october if thats the last month you can wait to get better hardware

that psu is working quite well, I do not see much of a reason to change it. I didn't know about new intel cpu's but I think I will pass on that one, I doubt it will be worth the wait unless ddr5 is on the table.

Have you ever seen good deals on PC hardware last black friday/cyber monday? Last year I was awfully disappointed with nothing good to buy from the internet (I am not willing to go to the stores).

If you don't buy the gpu until October I don't see why you should buy the cpu now. Some rumors say intel might release 8 core cpus next gen so...

 

The psu might be OK but performance isn't as good as newer units, which could potentially reduce component longevity over the long term. To add to that, you could also potentially see reduced overclocking headroom from a worse psu.

the deals ranged from okay to really good and got sold out immediately

 

even the okay ones really do stack up though at 10 - 30% here and there add up substantially, especially with a build of this budget you'll be able to do a lot more overall

I remember not seeing much of high-end CPUs being offered, nor GPUs (although that might be for other issues at the time).

Oh well, might as well see what the rumors say about that when the time comes. And I do not really need 8 cores for just gaming, right? I think the only thing that will change my mind on that one is ddr5.

i saw very decent sales on all sorts of stuff on amazon and their infinite warehouses

 

i would start there and on newegg, they had good black friday discounts

More cores is always better, especially as games get more multi threaded. We might potentially have higher overclocks, and even if we don't, you could perhaps end up getting an i5 which will be about as good as the 8700k while being cheaper.

 

Not sure why DDR5 is such a big point for you. It'll be faster for sure but I feel like more cores would make a bigger difference.

ddr5 only because then I would need to buy it and future platforms will use it in the case I need to upgrade. Other than that I really don't think it will be much of a performance increase from ddr4 to ddr5. Yes, but I5 resell value is lower in case I want to sell it and get something better, and we won't know about performance gains until those are actually reviewed

A lot of less than well founded argument.

 

What is the point of DDR5 since you currently plan to opt for close to the poorest performance DDR4 memory kit available?
 

Memory performance does make a difference. In fps gaming it can add several frames per second in some titles.

 

There is better performing memory at the same price and substantially better performing memory for less than US$10 more.

 

It is surprising to see a TG mini-ITX case paired with a Dark Rock Pro 3. It strikes me that there is very little point in a beautiful glass window showing a huge black block that obscures most of the motherboard.

 

I would invest in a new psu. @DocSwag has explained why this is a good idea. I would just add that spending US$2K on a system then entrusting it to a US$40 psu does not strike me as very balanced.

Oh yes, I just but that 16gb with a parametric filter. I will instead go for at least 2666 or 3000 kit when I buy the mobo and cpu. Actually, that cooler looks pretty beautiful in that case (I like it how it takes over almost all the room, and ram clearance should not be an issue -I planned for that already). Many people have seen saying that about the PSU, might as well look into it properly. But I am truly clueless about what unit to get 50-70 usd would be my limit on a psu.

Invest more in the psu. Something like SeaSonic - FOCUS Plus Gold 650W would be an excellent choice. If you want custom cables, Cablemod has them.

I already got cable extensions, but well might as well look into that psu.

DDR5 is most likely not going to be around until 2020 and won't get mainstream adoption until 2021 or 2022.

 

I just don't understand why you won't wait for the cpu/mobo/ram if you won't be getting the gpu yet. You won't be able to game on it without a gpu so why buy now?

because it is just not worth the wait for me. And will buy those components when I see them for a good price (280 for i7 8700k, ~150 for 16gb of 3000 ram, ~100 for mobo) If I do not see them for those prices I wont buy them until I get the GPU. Otherwise, I will but them anyways as I am getting rid of my 7567 laptop and would need something to do work on. .
