System won't post when something's plugged into SATA power? WTF is going on HELP?!

So I'm building a system for my grandfather and it's almost done but its having a VERY weird problem. (i7-2600k, Dell XPS 8300 Mobo, 32GB EVGA SuperSC DDR3-1600, 1060 3GB). When there is a device plugged into SATA power it refuses to post. I tried it with 3 different SSDs, 2 HDDs and a CD drive to make sure of what the issue was. Ideas as the what the fuck is going on here? Solutions?

Are you getting any POST codes or is the system refusing to turn on at all?

It doesn't have a postcode thingy, and anyway it just refuses to start at all

If you have a motherboard speaker connected, it'll create beeps if yours doesn't have a code readout display. What power supply are you using?

Have you tried all the different modular connectors on the power supply(the appropriate ones for peripheral cables)? I'm thinking a short is occurring somewhere.

It only has one SATA power thingy included

I would say there's something wrong with the cable or PSU.

It's not a race to the bottom.

Have you tried using a different SATA port on the motherboard? I've personally never trusted a Dell motherboard on reliability.If the issue still occurs after switching ports,then the issue probably lies with the PSU SATA power cables
