New Build - Audio is fine, then comes the popping

Das Duke

Hello all,

I have recently built my first PC and I'm having audio issues. When I first boot the PC I can play audio fine for about 2 or 3 minutes and then all I get is a popping/crackling/clipping sound. I have an HDMI cable from my MB to an external monitor (used the same cable and monitor with my old rig) for video and sound.

My Specs:

OS: Windows 10/64bit

CPU: i7 8700k

MB: Asus Strix 370z - E gaming

CPU Cooler: Dark Rock pro

PSU: Dark power pro 850

SSD 1: Samsung 960 pro 512gb nvme

SSD 2: WD Black 512gb nvme

RAM: 16gb Trident Z 3200mz

Case: (if it matters) Dark Base Pro 900 (White)

GPU: waiting on MSI 1080ti Duke to be back in stock somewhere....

What I've tried:

Turning it off and turning back on again

Googling my problem

Disabling audio devices, turning it back on and off again, re-enabling audio devices

Giving the PC some space to work out its problems

Updating Windows

Updating Integrated Graphics (Which includes the Intel (R) Display Driver: The one I'm pretty sure is responsible

for the audio transfer to my display)

Restarting some more

Uninstalling Intel (R) Display, restarting, and re-installing)

Plugging the PC directly into the wall socket instead of a surge protector

Trying not to get frustrated

Checking cable connections

Trying a different cable

Seeing if Linus had a video about this

Any help, tips, reiterations, software, hardware, work arounds, or fixes would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all.

All audio devices have this issue? Speakers in monitor via HDMI cable? Speakers? Headphones/Earphones? Front and back AUX ports? USB headsets?

No, as far as I can tell its just Speakers in monitor via HDMI cable.

And if you plug in another computer to this monitor, like a laptop if you have one nearby... is the problem reproduced? Might be a defective monitor.

I have been using this monitor as a second monitor for my laptop and have not had this issue at all. It's only happened with the new pc.

Have you tried a different HDMI port on the GPU? or even an onboard HDMI port (just for test purposes)

I do not currently have a GPU in the system. I am using the only HDMI port on the MB.
