Personally I would recommend just an SSD for a gaming machine. If you really need ridiculous amounts of storage then maybe buy a WD Velociraptor but the two in one drive seems like it is not worth it to me unless you are getting it for a laptop.

^This. You could change that 2TB to 3TB and maybe even 4TB. For a desktop, its a terrible option, unless you have something like an Arc Mini R2 with a full loop, everything removed and you have your drives mounted on the back of the motherboard tray. Then it is kind of practical. It isnt really a a good deal.

A bit harsh but I agree.

It should be reserved for when you only have a single drive bay in a laptop that doesn't have a msata slot or optical drive bay that you can put a ssd in along with the hdd you already have.

WD must have surveyed a bunch of morons, if their statement is true about asking "tech savvy" people their preferred configuration when it comes to mech+nand combo drives.   I would have liked a Seagate approach but with a larger than 8gb flash.

I like the idea of 2 drives in one but if they lowered the price maybe I would get it.

They have to start somewhere. It will get cheaper with time.
