Default program installations to D drive

I've had my SSD paired with a HDD for a couple of months now. OS speed is amazing. The only thing that has always bothered me, is that every program I download defaults to the SSD as installation location, since that is where my OS is installed. I really don't need programs like Spotify or Corsair Link to be installed on the SSD. Since I've ordered a new GPU I want to take this as an opportunity to reset my PC so everything gets cleaned up. With the new installation I'd ideally like to only install the OS on the SSD and everything else on the HDD. Is there a way to get programs to default to your D drive and create all the necessary folders automatically, like Programs x86?

@Vandeloy bare in mind that not all of the program will install to HD.  Driver and library files will install to c drive system and system32.

If you don't feel comfortable doing regedit method @legacy99 suggested, you can use semi-manual way. Which is to create folder named Program Files and Program Files (x86) to HDD and just changing drive letter on every install. You will learn this pretty quickly. I used this method for 4 years before upgrading my SSD. There are only handful of software which don't allow you to choose install location (namely Chrome and MS Office).
