New Motherboard

I have recently upgraded from an x99/6800k system to a z370/8700k. Windows now says it is not activated. I admit I forgot that it was connected to the motherboard. Is it possible to transfer my activation to my new motherboard or am I going to have to suck it up and buy another key on kinguin (that's where I got my windows 10 64 bit if it makes any difference)?

I don't think so, Windows should accept used keys.

Was your license retail or OEM? And was it connected to your MS account or not?
