That will largely depend on your import laws in India.

But I would assume that you'll be charged Import/Customs duties and fees, plus whatever sales taxes you would normally be charged locally (if any) by the postal service on delivery.

Whether that amount will be more or less than the price difference? I have no idea. No doubt you could find out the various fees/taxes charged for importing something, and do the math.

It's up to the discretion of the shipper on who pays for import/customs fees. They specify it when it gets sent via whatever postal service they use. I'd say contact whoever or whatever company is selling it and ask about their policies for import/customs fees or duty.

Unless it's different in India, for consumer shipping, the import/customs fees are almost always paid by the recipient, since they are generally COD (Collect On Delivery).

Especially for a company that ships internationally, it's incredibly rare that they would cover those fees. Even if they offer "free shipping".

Note: It is possible for the shipper to cover these fees, usually by having a Brokerage Account (you would give this info to the shipping company), but this is not common for consumer/retail sales.

I'd be careful using always, I've seen large purchases coming into Canada, England, and Poland first hand that the duty was by the sending party/company. I can understand that on Amazon it's a general rule of thumb coming from them, they most likely have the recipient COD, but if it's through a third party on amazon, it might be different.

Underlined for emphasis. I was careful. I did not say always. I said almost always.

Can you clarify what you mean by "large purchases"? From what companies? What kind of products? Are these retail sales? Are these direct B2B (Business to Business) sales? Are these wholesale supplier sales? etc.

I've essentially never seen an international retail sales website cover Duty/Customs/Import Taxes.

With that in mind, certain items are exempt from duty/customs fees, depending on the trade agreements made between the origin country, and the recipient country. For example, due to NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement), many items coming from the US to Canada are exempt from Duty/Customs fees.

However, even in these cases, they are not exempt from taxes, and I've never seen a retail website cover the taxes for you.

Also, the type of courier matters. For example, sending an item from US to Canada. If sent via FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc, these courier companies charge a "Brokerage Fee". This is not a legally mandated fee. It's essentially them charging you to process the item through customs/across the border.

If the same item is sent via USPS, which gets handed over to Canada Post, they do not charge you a Brokerage Fee - the customs processing is done for free.

Lastly, some items simply slip under the radar, and are not charged duty/import fees, even when they should be. Or the tax isn't charged, for the same reason. This is not the sender paying the fees for you - but rather, this is the customs agency simply not checking/processing the item the way they should.

It depend on the laws in India. But if the seller provides free shipping then you don't have to worry about. Last time I ordered a small coffee table on Amazon. Obviously, I wrote the wrong postal code 'cause I am still waiting for a parcel. Now I have to figure out the situation with the shipment service. So I hope you didn't make my mistakes and carefully checked sip code on the services like https://worldpostalcode.com/ finder.
