Hello

If there is a laptop with 1 16gb-ram stick (dddr4) in it. Is it okay to buy any other dddr4 16gb ram stick (which is compatible with the laptop) and place it in the other empty ram slot so that I have dual channel 32 gb ram? The laptop I am interested in is msi gx63vr which comes with 1 16gb-ram stick and I have read reviews that this bottlenecks the core i7-7700hq. I do not know the ram manufacturer for this laptop. I went to crucial and it said BALLISTIX sport 16 gb (1*16) is compatible with msi-ge63vr which is apparently the same as msi-gx63vr. Can I add this ram (BALLISTIX sport 16 gb) in the empty slot along with the other ram whose manufacturer I do not know?

Or should I get BALLISTIX sport 16 gb (2*8) and remove the memory inside the laptop and place these 2 memory modules (the ballistix ones) instead to get dual channel 16gb ram ?

The reason why I want to add another ram-stick is listed on this page; https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=295738.0

What. There's no such thing.

16GB RAM is plenty.

Yes you can add another DDR4 sodimm RAM. However there's no 100% guarantee that it's compatible. To increase the compatibility, make sure the extra RAM has the same timings and frequency.

Why you want 32GB RAM? There's little reason to do so.

No such thing. I think you mean dual channel RAM (for instance 2 8GB RAM sticks), that will give a noticeable performance boost but not much as using a more powerful GPU, also depends on which game. GPU is more important as well as CPU (at least 7700HQ IMO). 16GB is enough for PUBG and DOTA 2.

Why does this laptop ship with 1 16GB stick instead of 2*8 GB sticks

No idea. Many laptops are like that. Maybe they want to keep an upgrade path to the user.
