I would like to make a cheap i5 760 pc and over clocking the chip. Bcz i would love to test around with oc'ing ik that the cpu isn't super great but overclocked it would still be a big update from my i5 2450m from my laptop right ?

My laptop thermal throttles alot and under gaming load the cpu reaches 90+ degrees.

I would save up some money and buy into a new/current/recent platform, not something that is 8 years old. You will get more efficient and likely better stuff that way (not to mention better support, warranty).

Crystal: CPU: i7 7700K | Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z270F | RAM: GSkill 16 GB@3200MHz | GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti FE | Case: Corsair Crystal 570X (black) | PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 1000W | Monitor: Asus VG248QE 24"

Laptop: Dell XPS 13 9370 | CPU: i5 10510U | RAM: 16 GB

Server: CPU: i5 4690k | RAM: 16 GB | Case: Corsair Graphite 760T White | Storage: 19 TB

-Moved to new Builds and Planning-

You should save up more cash and buy a more recent platform. The oldest I would be willing to go on an Intel platform is probably Ivy Bridge(3rd Gen). As for AMD, anything pre-Ryzen is basically garbage.

In that case you should just disassemble it until you can see the heatsink, remove the fan and the dust bunnies inside that.

If it is an older one you should have acces to that without too much hassle.

Its something that is needed from time to time and can hardly be avoidable...

Yeah, absolutely.

So the Problem is the users that sell this old hardware. And why do they do that.

The People that replace those things regularly already have at worst a Haswell.

So we are most likely talking about components that are probably used with acient or crappy PSU that are at least as old as the systems or at worst even older...

And the chance that it dies soon is rather high - because of the Age.

So that leaves that you should only take that old things only from People you know and not some random one off the Interwebs...

Because its entirely possible that the hardware is sold because they are dying!

@Crunchy Dragon can you tell me why u would take 3th gen or + is it for the age of the product or simply for the features ?

Age and features, mainly.

Because it's newer, it'll last longer before becoming so old that it's completely obsolete. Not to mention you have a lot of nicer features over older platforms such as the LGA 1366 or 771/775 platforms.
