windows share

hey everyone just a quick question 

 

so i have my main computer (gaming computer) and my windows home server on the same net work but my gaming computer wont see the server 

i tried another coputer and it works fine and so does my laptop i dont know what to do i reinstalled windows on both computers and still the same with just this one computer 

specs on computer 

gigabyte z270 gaming 9 

i7 7700k 

32gb ram 

dual rx480s

to many ssds to count 

liquid cooled

yes i have and still nothing 

it can get on the internet and i am able to do everything else fine on it but get to my fileshare

What happens when you ping?

when i ping nothing happens says there is no connection

have you tried disabling the firewall of both windows?

Then you know the problem isn't in the applications and it's a network level problem. Go over your network setting and make sure they can ping. Potentual culprits might be firewall or vpn software but not in default windows install configuration.

 

(wifi also has a settings for inter host communication that might be an issue)

What is the ip of both computers?

Do you have IPv6 enabled if so disable

Are both computer on the same subnet?

Ensure the network location is set to Private

Can your router ping to either host?

Could one of them not be on the pro version?
