I live in europe and the budget is about 500 US dollars. I already have all the peripherals, monitor, PSU and storage. I will be upgrading to a ryzen 5 i just need tips on what motherboard and memory to buy (8 Gb min). Budget is 500 dollars for CPU motherboard memory and a case.

I could've gone 64gb and maxed his mobo out but that would've left no room for a decent case.

Good enough to run a 6 core at stock, or with a light overclock. Why compromise, instead of getting a more reasonable amount of RAM (that runs at a decent speed) and a decent motherboard?

1) RAM speed really doesn't make much of a difference.

2) "Light overclock" he doesn't even need that, he's upgrading to a ryzen 5 for crying out loud. It's gonna be quite a while before he even needs to overclock.

3) That is a decent motherboard. My friend has one and he runs a ryzen 7 1700x at 4.8ghz on that thing. Air cooling if you're wondering.

RAM does make a quite significant difference on Ryzen, especially as the infinity fabric thing depends on the RAM speed. 

Why would you give up the possibility to overclock properly just to get a silly amount of RAM? And if he decides to get a future gen 8 core, he won't be able to overclock it much. 

It's an objectively crappy motherboard. It uses crappy components for the VRM. I seriously doubt has reached anywhere close to 4,8GHz. I don't know if you've noticed, but 4,2GHz is considered very good on Ryzen with water cooling, and unreachable for most chips.

Where are you getting your information from? 32GB isn't a silly amount of RAM either, infact if you look at some games, you'll find some games can take up to 20GB of ram by themselves. 32GB also makes it so he doesn't have to upgrade his RAM for a long time. For the record, I've personally seen my friend's computer get up to 4.8.

sorry for the misunderstanding everyone but 500 dollars includes the cpu (ryzen 5). the motherboard needs to have a pci-e 16x and another atleast pci 1x (for wireless wifi card)

 

Edit: Stock cooler will work for anyone asking but a better one can help.

 

Also, would a 450w psu be enough with an EVGA GTX 1050 SC?
