In the end, both should perform about the same. The Ryzen system will have better compatibility with future parts, but the Intel system will be a tad quicker on single core operations. It's personal preference otherwise.

I would go shopping and pick myself an older PC with a Xeon chip on eBay or Craigslist and add HDD space as needed.

My suggestion is about as small as it gets for micro ATX, only slightly bigger than mini ITX. And I put them in Pcpartpicker lists. You can click the links ;)

Not really :P I did select the same memory because it's compatible with every Ryzen board on the planet. Very different other components, though.

You know that calling troll on stuff isn't allowed, right? Ubuntu doesn't need stupidly high specs to do stuff, it's linux ffs. I've run it on systems that are almost as old as me before.

This isn't an Ubuntu PC for web browsing. It needs to run game servers, which DO need a decent amount of RAM and preferably fast storage to run quickly. Also, your quote has a bunch of old parts nobody should even consider anymore.

I've ran ubuntu game servers on a 12 year old Dell Inspiron 530 before which has worse specs than what I went for. And yes, they ran perfectly fine.

Still, why suggest something with old components, slow harddisk and just 4GB RAM when you can get something that's faster and newer for the same money? That's my main point here.

"Slow harddisk"? It's a hybrid and they're damn fast. 4GB is sufficient for an ubuntu game server.

In the end, both should perform about the same. The Ryzen system will have better compatibility with future parts, but the Intel system will be a tad quicker on single core operations. It's personal preference otherwise.
