So, I just recently finished a build. My previous one was a Phenom II, if that's any indication of how overdue this upgrade was. It was in a dowdy little case that had expansion bays for floppy drives, so the case design was at best... dated.

In any case, I've been wanting a window case build for years, and I eventually settled on a Cooler Master Masterbox pro 5 (I think that's the model). It's got RGB fans on it, and given that my new motherboard has an RGB header on it, I made sure to hook that up. (ASRock AB350 Pro4 motherboard) I was... underwhelmed by the options for RGB.

I guess what I'm getting at would be is there a controller that can do the crazy things I see all the time on forums and Youtube vids, or is it much more involved than I'm willing to get into? Like, I don't want to program an arduino or anything like that just to have some fancy lighting.

The market's kind of confusing for me at the moment. I've been away from PC part shopping for far too long, and the controllers I'm looking at seem to be either repeaters or maybe not worth the money.

There are a few options out there. Thermaltake it one and so is Enermax, which even comes with a handy IR controller.

Thermaltake: http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Cooler/Case_Fan_/Pure/C_00003232/Pure_Plus_12_RGB_Radiator_Fan_TT_Premium_Edition_3_Fan_Pack_/design.htm

Enermax: http://www.enermaxusa.com/product.php?pid=98224255#!/T.B. RGB/p/98224255

I personally like both of these over others such as Corsair, this is due to you being able to see the RGB goodness from the side. So If you ahve front fans for instance, with either Thermaltake or Enermax fans you'll be able to see the RGB not just from the front of the case but from the side...which is the viewing angle most users will have.

No, 1000x no on ThermalCrap. I have entire stacks of those fans not work and there Support just doesn't care.

Just read the product description, Not all RGB strips and fans can connect to the RGB headers. Coolermaster is one of the few fans that do. InWin is another (In my opinion they are one of the best due to there linking system and quality of the fans/Products).

Most Brands have there own ecosystem and require hub of some sort, Just be careful when ordering products. I use all Aqua-Computer/Asus EcoSystem for my setup.

Current Build: Project Frost
Gaming Rig Build: Project Ice Dragon

You can get a software based RGB controller from coolermaster for their fans.

Seems like you have some real hatred for ThermalTake. All the fans in my system came with the case, and are Cooler Master, so I'm happy enough.

Rocking Cinco De Mayo colors for now.
