Hey guys,

I know this will be probably only speculations and guessing, but when do you think socket 2011 will be replaced?

for now it has only seen the sandy bridge architecture, but we know it will get ivy bridge. do you think it will get "haswell-E"? or by then they'll release a new socket?

From what I know Intel only uses the same socket when it's the same micro architecture. For example Haswell has a new micro architecture that's why it uses 1150 instead of 1155. So I guess 2011 will only be for Sandy Bridge-E and Ivy Bridge-E and Haswell-E will have a new socket (if it ever happens, I don't think the extreme series is generating that much revenue for Intel nowadays).

I think there will be another chipset for Haswell. I do not think that the E boards are going away, they do not get a lot of attention, but the are good for people that 1. want awesome performance 2. want a workstation, but don't want xeon.

Officially nothing has been said relating to a new generation of CPU's designed to work on the X79 chipset and 2011 socket. There are rumors of the release of Ivy Bridge-E in quarter 4 of 2013 however again, nothing is written in stone. Rumors have also been floating around that IBE will not be released and we will go straight into Haswell E which will require a new motherboard which in theory will then use the same socket as Broadwell E if that ever happens.

ok on guru3d on the 2nd there was more info on the Ivy Bridge-E that they are expected to hit 3rd QTR 2013, there will be 3 versions of it, and will need a bios update for them to work in LGA2011 motherboards, but if i remember right the new Evga X79 dark is going to run Sandy Bridge-E, and Ivy Bridge-E straight out of the box.
