Computer keeps power cycling

Ok, so setting up a computer, the PC will turn on for a few seconds and power back off.

This is from turning the switch on the PSU on. It starts before I hit the switch on the case.

 

I figure this is faulty power switch. I know it's not an issue with the PSU, it does the same thing when it's swapped out.

 

Am I right? Or could it be something else?

Have you tried removing the power switch connectors and jumping them with a screwdriver to see if you can confirm the faulty power switch?

No. Just put a screwdriver against those two pins?

So it does the same thing when jumped that way. Which means it's the motherboard I imagine.

To start, have you reseated the RAM? (By this I mean removing the DIMMs and putting them back in, really making sure they're in there).

Sorry for the late reply. Makes me think it’s either the motherboard or a component on the motherboard itself. 

 

I’ve had an issue like this before and the way I resolved it was by draining the residual power before trying to plug power in. I essentially unplugged the power plug and held the power button for around 30 seconds.

 

What power supply are you using?

Tried that, it didn't work.

What power supply are you using?

CX650M and an older Silverstone Strider Plus.

 

I pulled the CMOS battery, left it for a bit, put it back in and now the power cycling has stopped. Now there's a new issue. It won't post.

It turns on, fans spin, etc but there's no display on the monitor. The DBUG DRAM and CPU lights pulse between one another.

 

The CPU, RAM and graphics card were all pulled from a working system. I also tried it with 2 other sticks of RAM I have laying around, same issue except the DRAM and CPU DBUG lights stay lit.

If all components are removed to the bare minimum (ie, Processor, single DIMM of ram), swap any redundant components (ie RAM). If the issue still persists after that, the motherboard, ram, cpu, and psu may need to be swapped. If there are any beep codes, let me know.

I have a feeling it's the motherboard. The CPU, RAM etc all worked perfectly fine in the last system.

RAM, CPU and GPU as I've been testing are the minimum number of components.

Do you see any charring or visible burns on the back or front of the motherboard? Maybe any scratches or hairline cracks as well

Nope. I might try reseating the CPU but that means dealing with the absolutely garbage mounting hardware CryOrig uses.

I'd almost rather just take off the cooler, chuck it and the motherboard in the trash and sell the rest.

I feel the same way. I have mixed feelings about MSI in general. What CPU are you using with the board?
