Hello all you awesome guys. Now I am planning on building a home server with unraid/freeNAS, router with pfSense and setting up a 10/40g lan, and I wonder if it's possible to use a connected to router/server monitor for output from local devices in net, like pc and more importantly android phone? It would be really cool for watching movies from bed and such stuff. Only solutions I can figure out: RDP software like TW, but i assume it's not too convenient fot this concrete scenario and won't work too fast on my pretty aged nexus 5; using chromecast or something alike, but it would add additional cost. Are there any other ways? Google says i want monitoring tools for lan and refuses to show anything related to my question.

Nothing that's free or cheap. There are HDMI over IP encoders and decoders but the cheap ones are not for use with an actual network, just using cable that's point to point. The more expensive ones are several hundred bucks at least.

If you just want to watch movies etc from your bed you could just set up a share and stream the movies over your network from the server ... or am I understanding your question wrong?
Normally if you talk about monitoring you are talking about checking the status of the server and things like that, but I don't think you are looking for that right?

Thx for your answer, although that's a pity.

What about setting up the server as a Plex server?

I would only be able to watch media on the phone itself, no? This could be done pretty easily, and is not my main goal.

No. All your movies and videos will be stored onto the Plex server. You can stream it from your phone.

Yes, they will be stored on server and viewed on phone screen. I want to view them on a server's monitor, controlling process through phone.

I really don't understand whats the benefit having monitoring a movie from your server monitor instead of stream it locally from your server.

Yes, that is your definition or description what you looking for

A monitoring software that could monitor screen while it plays media of your server on your phone.

if it's only to play media then try to process these people suggestion which is plex.

it serve media, processed on your server to your phone, or whatever hardware you use, if you want to multicast/broadcast that to your tv you can also do that, in fact that is the foundation of what plex was build for.

Now if you still sticking to RDP software unfortunately you won't find anything suitable for media purpose since almost RDP are build to remote on low bandwith, so technically it will try to use bandwith as less as possible to stay connected which is decreasing picture quality by a lot.

Ok, i will try to say it better. I want to have my media stored on a server, myself lying on a bed, take my phone, use it to start playing media stored on a server and outputted to a connected to a server monitor, controll the process from my phone. Basically i just want my phone to act as a remote, which is built in some android phones (via IR), but requiers a newer compatible phone and a newer compatible TV. I absolutely do not want to spend an awfully huge load of bucks on it, so I am looking for a software solution.

I know about Plex. I am going to use it. But it has different purpose. It streams media from a server to a phone, this is great. It transcodes media in process, this is great too. It doesn't make my phone act as a remote, this is unfortunate. I checked your video to be sure, and this is it.

Ahhhh thanks, that's actually a great feature that I have totally forgotten. Will try to find such thing in MPC-HC because of CCCP (checked, it obviously exists).

I already have a wireless keyboard for such use, but it still takes too much space. Problem solved, I stupidly forgot an obvious feature of players themselves, thanks everyone for trying to figure out what the hell was I trying to implement.
