What resolution and refresh rate are you playing at / aiming for? For 1080p60 the 1060 will likely suffice, for higher resolution and/or refresh rate you'll want to consider the 1070.

Crystal: CPU: i7 7700K | Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z270F | RAM: GSkill 16 GB@3200MHz | GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti FE | Case: Corsair Crystal 570X (black) | PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 1000W | Monitor: Asus VG248QE 24"

Laptop: Dell XPS 13 9370 | CPU: i5 10510U | RAM: 16 GB

Server: CPU: i5 4690k | RAM: 16 GB | Case: Corsair Graphite 760T White | Storage: 19 TB

I'm going for 1080p 144hz.

Will 1060 still be good or 1070 the obviously better option?

The 1060 would probably work if you'd turn the settings down, especially on the more demanding titles. I'd go with the 1070.

By the way, what's the rest of the system like?

I have a pretty low end system so I was considering upgrading.

I have a GTX 960, i7 3770k, 16Gb Ram DDR3

Luckily it's an i7 and a k edition. Should be fine I think. If not, try overclocking the CPU a little.

Thats not low end the 3770k is still plenty good but yeah new GPU would be good I would 100% go for the 1070 if you want 144hz because in more graphically demanding games the 1060 just wont be enough for a constant 144fps

System Specs

CPU: I7-5820k   MOBO:Asus X99 strix   RAM: 32gb corsair Dominator Platinum 2666mhz   GPU: Gigabyte G1 Gaming 980TI  PSU: Corsair RM1000i

Alright I think I will go for the 1070 thanks. :)

P.S: my intel i7 only has 4 cores and I heard the norm is like 6 cores now or somethin

go for the 1070, you play games which are kind of demanding and seeing that you play fallout, skyrim, I can see you getting into games like witcher or something more demanding in the future and a 1060 won't help you then(in the case of witcher it would be fine, but still). Also, this sould leave some room for better graphics settings and higher refresh rates if u decide to buy a high refresh rate monitor and it also comes with the posibility to mount in SLI in the future when u decide to buy another GPU

P.S. Maybe consider overclocking that CPU?

I would but I have a stock cooler, those are no good for overclocking.

Thanks for the tips too haha :)

Gaming doesnt use more than 4 cores so it wouldnt make much difference its only nice to have 6-8 cores if you are doing stuff like live streaming or more professional tasks

precisely because it uses at most 4 cores, he should overclock those cores to get better performance from them. If you wanna game it's better to have higher frequency cores rather than more cores with lower frequency(obviously core frequency is not the only factor, but still).

The new generation has more cores yes, but it's not the norm by any means. Don't worry. The main gain is the increase in clock speed an IPC. So at least for gaming you're good.
