I have OBS Studio, and am trying to stream some fortnite.

But the fps counter next to the cpu usage fluctuates a lot and makes the stream look choppy and terrible. on the loading screen and stuff its usually at 60fps locked (not always, but most of the time)

When in game even though the game fps is around 50-60fps, the fps counter in obs is fluctuating between like 35fps and 60fps. cpu usage is usually under 7% (NVENC) and if i use x264 encoding then its usually under 40%.

This happens when streaming or recording. I am on the latest version of obs.

Anyone know what could be causing this?

Thanks

From what I've seen, OBS struggles when you're not on higher tier GPUs like 970, 1060 6GB, 1070 etc. Though, you can occasionally get better results by setting specific profiles. Take the one I attached below, import it into OBS, then change the resolution to 720 and scaling to the 32 sample option (don't remember what it's called.)

You can also try changing the priority level to above normal or high in OBS to have it force resources to OBS instead of the game, but you may get in game FPS drops then.

Fine you want the PSU tier list? Have the PSU tier list: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1116640-psu-tier-list-40-rev-103/

Thanks I'll give it a shot. The weird thing is I used to be able to stream fine... Now I can't even record my desktop as it does this weird FPS thing. I would like to stream at 1080 tho.

i dropped to 1080p30, and obs stays locked at 30fps... although in game it seems less smooth to me although my game fps seems to be at 60fps... its like microstutter or frame lag or something. any idea what could be the issue?

Frame lag would make me think it's a resource issue... I'm assuming that with task manager open your CPU is not hitting 100% usage while streaming? if it is that's 100% the issue. I would also check your OBS version, I've had OBS perform worse with certain updates and rolled back 1 or 2 updates to get the performance back.

My guess is that it's a GPU resource issue then. that's the last thing in the chain that could be causing it.

i dropped my streaming settings to 1080p30 (720p60 didnt fix the issue) and obs is fine, but in game i get stuttering and like microstutter/frame lag or something weird, and its hard to play... its still playable, but not as smooth and nice.
