Hi

I have a 1080 strix and I wonder whether liquid metall from grizzly bear would ruin or damage my card. Looking at a few clips some mention that the conductonout could chew through the heatsink, I wonder if any one has tried to apply liquid metal on their 1080 strix?

1. You'll lose warranty

2. If you spill the liquid metal, board components can separate from the board so the card won't work anymore

Only do this if you are confident enough and take the right precautions. Liquid metal eats through aluminium, so it shouldn't make contact with the heatsink but just the copper that contacts the die and the die itself.

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro

Is it worth the temps? I also planned to put electrical tape around the die to be safe.

The strix isn't the hottest card out there. You'll mostly notice a temp drop while overclocking.

Liquid metal eats soldering. Be Very careful and methodic when you apply it. This also goes to shunt mods.

Temps are the best you can get, but we are speaking of 5ºC agains the closest 0-risk thermal paste. (it may sound like little but its a lot actually).

The liquid metal reacting with copper/alluminum heatsink is true, but its not easy to call it since we, customers, have no control over quality of metals present in the heatsink. Some alloys react more than others. (Remember Heat, increases reaction, so it makes things go from bad to fucked up very fast). Not up to scare anyone, but that's the nature of the beast. If in doubt, contact support and ask if the particular set of parts you will be using is ready or not for the mod you are doing. Your warranty will be lost after that (it's quite easy to spot liquid metal damages so RMA wont go though), so better ask all your questions out beforehand.
