Even sticking with same thread counts... if your GPU limited,.. there will only be minor differences.

Won't be much difference because your at your limits of your GPU first before your CPU.

If you had a 1080Ti, then your framerates are going to be so high, a stronger CPU can push more than another..

With your limited by GPU, most CPU's from Intel (2nd gen or above) would ALL be viable with little to negligible differences due to GPU power being tapped out first.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

alright, so with a 1050ti anything around a 4th gen i5 would be good? and is 4th gen i5 OCable?

4th Gen is like all the Generations before and after, K-Skews are Overclockable. Non-K skews can only be tweaked a tiny fraction of what K-skews can do.

All Ryzens OC

With a 1050Ti you'd be fine with an i5/i7 from 2nd/3rd Generation as those CPU's can provide more powerful GPU's their data.
iE - Even with a 1060, an i5/i7 2/3rd gen could keep up still.
3rd Gen Intel is only slightly behind Ryzens 8 thread CPU,.. 4th Gen Intel Cores are 5% faster than Ryzen cores depending on application usages.
You don't need MUCH CPU (just have it be 4-8 threads) and a decent GPU and your golden.

(Keep in mind a 1050Ti is akin to a 280x Beast GPU from just years ago, now in 75 watt form, not 180-200w of Power used)
A beast for what it is....

I'm sure a sandy bridge i3 would tap out a 1050ti bro

if u got a 5440 or above u will be ok

- 4000 32gb ram

-4070ti super duper

sandy bridge i3 is too weak. More like Sandy i5

Anything along the lines of a 2500k, 2550k, 2600k, 2700k, 3570k, 3770k, which are 2nd and 3rd generation, once overclocked can keep up with 8th gen stock CPU's (with the same core/thread count).

If your on a tight budget, keep an eye out for 2nd hand / used deals. Some places will have 2nd/3rd gen CPUs for super cheap, not understanding that just becouse these CPU's are old, does not mean they perform poorly.

I've seen 2500k bassed system on sale for like £200 in the UK, cazy good deal considering how well it can still perform with a good OC.
