So I'm thinking of upgrading my PC as it is getting a bit on the older side. I want to either upgrade my GPU or to a new CPU and Mobo . The problem is that I don't know which one would be better for the price or if it is even worth upgrading in the first place. I would like to know what you guys think would be good to upgrade and what is not worth to upgrade.. Also if you have suggestions on a different part that could be an upgrade better than what I listed, it would be nice. Thanks!

PLANS:

GPU Upgrade = 1080ti

CPU / MOBO Upgrade = I7 8700k + Gigabyte Z370 Aorus G7

SPECS:

CPU - Haswell-E 5820-k 4.2ghz

GPU - EVGA 980ti SC+ ACX 2.0 / Corsair H100i

PSU - EVGA SuperNova 1050g

Memory - ADATA xpg z1 ddr4 (24gb) (6x4)

Motherboard - Gigabyte x99 UD4

Case - NZXT S340

OS - Win10

For gaming, I suggest you upgrade the GPU because going from a 5820k to 8700k won't make a big difference in gaming, but changing the GPU will.

Would you say the 1080ti is a solid upgrade? Or would you recommend something else.

Also, is there any cpu worth upgrading to or in this case would it be very minor with all upgrades.

I would say the only reason you should upgrade anything in your system is if you want to play games at 4k then the 1080ti is a good upgrade other than that your system is still high end.

CPU: I7-5820k   MOBO:Asus X99 strix   RAM: 32gb corsair Dominator Platinum 2666mhz   GPU: Gigabyte G1 Gaming 980TI  PSU: Corsair RM1000i

The 5820k is a 6 core and so is the 8700k. The difference is that the 5820k has 28 pcie lanes and the 8700k has 16. So the 5820k is technically better than the 8700k in some ways even though it's not as good of an overclocker. The 1080 ti will be a solid upgrade for you, especially if you're about to play at high refresh rates at a high resolution.

BTW what resolution and refresh rate are you planning on gaming at?

Only for 4k, really? Not sure but only reason I was thinking of upgrading is because of preformance in games currently on 1080p.

Right now I have 2 1080p 144hz monitors. If all goes to plan, I'm thinking of upgrading monitors later down the road.

The 1080 ti is good for 1080p 144hz, 1440p 100hz, and/or 4k 60hz (I'm just estimating).

Alright, thank you for the information. One last question, however. How big of a performance difference would there be between the 1080 and 1080ti?
