Hi,

So I was wondering if there exist a program that allows the user to choose which programs run with mono audio and without. Since not all programs and apps have the mono audio feature build in it would be nice to know :)

Cheers.

Please mention or quote me if you want a response. :)

I don't have an answer, but just curious, what are you looking to listen to in mono?

I have a birth defect that only allows me to hear on one ear. Sooo everything.

Please mention or quote me if you want a response. :)

The easiest solution would be to buy a sound mixer....  shove the stereo output into the mixer, merge 50% of left channel and 50% of right channel on left and/or right channel and output the sound.

If the mixer doesn't do that but has two stereo inputs, buy a stereo jack to 2 x stereo jack cable and a bunch of a couple of  stereo jack to 2 x mono jack cables and a couple of 2 x mono jack to stereo jack adapter cables .... put them in  mixer and combine the two inputs into one:

[ pc stereo out ] --->  stereo jack to 2 x stereo jack:   [SO1]  and [SO2]

[SO1] ->  stereo jack to 2 x mono jack (mono TRS or RCA) -> [ SO1 L]  [ SO1 R]

[SO2]  ->  stereo jack to 2 x mono jack (mono TRS or RCA) -> [SO2 L ] [ SO2 R]

[SO1 L ] +  [ SO2 R] -> 2 x mono -> jack stereo -> [ Stereo In 1]  (left and right)

[SO1 R ] +  [ SO2 L]  -> 2 x mono -> jack stereo -> [ Stereo In 2]  (right and left)

Now when you mix stereo in 1 and stereo in 2 in mix , you'll have  L+R on left speaker,  R+L on right speaker, so both speakers will basically be the same, output of original two channels merged together.

For a software solution, you could maybe try Virtual Audio Cable .  Set it to capture default stereo output (speakers), then apply some Stereo to Mono filter, then optionally put mono to stereo filter in the chain, then direct audio to headphones out or digital out or whatever.

What I would suggest is:

A Behringer MX400, which is a mono mixer, so you can take the stereo output from your computer (or an other source for that matter) and it will output on a single channel.

and,

One of these, which will take the output from the mixer and depending on which side you plug into the mixer will output on a single side of the headphones only.

You could even plug in two sources at once, as the mixer has four inputs (so two stereo sources).
