So I just bought my new computer and I was wondering if I could speed up the Windows 10 installing process by putting my new boot drive into another computer and downloading and installing it there. If that worked I would then move my new boot drive into my new pc. I was wondering if this would cause any problems. Many build guides show installing directly into the new pc and probaby not taking into account another pc to help this. Will having 2 coppies of Windows on my computer cause any problems? Will the new computer boot into windows if windows 10 is already there? Answers to there questions will greatly help with my first actual custom pc build.

Ty!

Windows should be installed on the computer that it will be used with, otherwise you will likely have issues and end up needing to clean install it months later.

Just clean install it properly from the beginning.

Using a second PC does not make things any easier, you still have to go through the exact same process and you risk deleting stuff on your other PC.

It will be faster because some parts are ariving offset from others.

Just so happened that my ssd and copy of Windows 10 are coming earlier. I may have another issue though. My new pc doesn’t have a disk reader. How else might i go about installing it. Could i take the disk reader drive from the old one and put it in the new one?

Im new to pc building so im sorry if questions are kinda dumb sounding.

if you do that first unplug the first windows drive then put in the fresh one, then install windows as normal. but do NOT activate it. then you should be good.

So say I’ve replaced my old boot with the new one. Will this make the system go weird since it has storage on the HDD inside of it? Will i have to unplugg that too? Once windows is in the disk reader will it just have the option to install it? Once i’ve taken the new ssd with the new copy of windows and plugged it into the new pc will it just accpet it? Sorry if this is to many questions or they are just dumb. I am new to this.

first you you disconnect all of the drives in the system. make sure you connect using SATA from the motherboard not a USB adapter, windows wont install there. then when you are done you can put your new drive in your new system and re connect your old ones.
