Ok I read something about the gpu needing more power to run monitors if they run at different refresh rates or something like that. Does that actually exist, like is there a study or something, or is there even a thing where different brands or models will have some effect? Like if I get three monitors of the same brand and model will that negate all of that? I guess one more question is like how much of a performance dip does a triple monitor setup put on the gpu, and just one with a game not all of them playing. Like one on the game and the others on the desktop.

Even if this theory was true (which I believe not), the performance dip wouldn't be noticeable.

Adding more monitors wont "slow" down your gpu, gaming using both monitors will tax your gpu, gaming on one monitor and having something else on the second monitor wont slow down your gpu. I have a 144hz asus monitor and another 60hz monitor i use on my setup. I haven't seen any problems so far.

Technically, there is performance degradation, but not in the way OP is talking about.

I figure by that you mean that the difference is negligible at most?

It depends on what is being displayed on the other display. Watching a YouTube video while gaming will have a bigger impact on performance versus displaying a static image, regardless of the CPU because the GPU is actively rendering, and more specifically, the video is most likely hardware accelerated.
