Add harddrive to owncloud

so i set up owncloud on my rpi3 but it is set to store on the micro sd, how do i make it locate files on the external hdd

You will need to either setup an external storage in owncloud (external mean an other path too)

Or move data to the external HDD, remember to edit you config files tho and set the data folder on the external HDD permissions correctly.

(if i remember correct: www-data:www-data)

 

If you are still in the setup progress i would suggest switching to nextcloud  (Owncloud fork)

suuurreeee?  They even have an upgrade install for owncloud installs

give me some reasons why its better and im open to changing

Nextcloud was formed by the core members who did not agree with having certain parts being closed (ie not open source)

That and the focus on enterprise by Owncloud and other stuff. There are some articles about all the details. But tldr is that they wanted to keep it open and free.

 

So far Nextcloud has more features then Owncloud and their app is free , but more importantly their support and community is really good and open.
