So I have really been trying to figure out what to put in my next pc lately since im probably gonna build it in the start of may. I really hope that you guys can help me out! I will try to explain my situation as good as i can

Im a student atm so it's not like i have a hole lot of money, but im saving up to this pc so if someone says that someone will give me a noticeable boost in performance if i saved up a little more for a specific and more expensive part i would do that. My plan this far is to buy -

Motherboard: Asrock Z370 Extreme4.

Cpu: i5-8600k.

Case: Silverstone Redline RL06 Pro.

Gpu: going to keep my current gpu which is a asus gtx 1060 dual oc 6gb. I upgrade my graphic card every three years ish

psu: Really trying to decide! was really hoping i didn't have to spend a hole lot on this but someone recommended to buy a "tier 1" psu from a list made on this forum also, i have linked. From there i tried to find the cheapest ones but i have no idea how to choose from there or how many watts i need? so i could really use some enlightenment on that part. I found the following:

COOLER MASTER V650 650W 80 PLUS GOLD PSU
Corsair RM750x 750W
Corsair SF600 600W
EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650W
EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650W
Seasonic Prime Gold 650W
Thermaltake Toughpower 750W
Thermaltake Toughpower Grand RGB 650W

I have no idea how to choose... Heeeeelp! :/

also im going to use my current cpu cooler which is: arctic freezer xtreme rev.2

Ram: is still trying to decide.. But got recommended that 3200mhz was the sweet spot and that it should have a cas of 15 or lower?

Hardisk: also im going to use the two hardisks i have now. My 128gb sandisk ssd and my 1tb regular harddisk. I am going to buy a bigger ssd later on for quicker lunch of more games but atm im doing okay with the 128 gb for operating system and my primary games

I hope i have given enough information to get some proper help. So fire away and let me hear all your ideas and recommendations

Thanks in advance! :D

Wait - what country?

550W, even 450W will be enough for a long time.

dont cheap out on your PSU, the life of the rest of your components depends on it. that being said, as long as you buy from a reputable brand, like Corsair, EVGA, or cooler master like you have listed, then you'll be fine.

you probably dont need anything gold rated, a bronze rated PSU will be just fine. dont spend more than like 80USD, but also dont get something suspiciously cheap. if you want semi, or full modular, that will be a few more $. semi works just fine on a budget, providing best of both worlds.

id go with around 700 or 750 watts, gives you a good amount of headroom, and you can probably reuse it on your next build.

i own 2 corsair 750 watt bronze's and they havent let me down, and have excellent build quality.

For PSU, try getting 80+ gold or better. But if you don't plan on adding a very power hungry GPU into your build along with your 1060, I think 600 watts will be fine for a psu. EVGA or Corsair will be the best for those probably. For RAM, the CAS you should get depends on the speed of your ram. If you get a higher speed ram, like 3000 or 3200, I would look for a CAS of 15 or 16. For 2400 to 2666, I would look for a CAS of even 14. Remember, in a majority of tasks (especially gaming), CAS timings and speeds are not going to make a huge difference at all. Even if you stuck with DDR4 2133mhz, you would experience around an extra 20 nanoseconds of latency and maybe a couple FPS difference when compared to faster speeds. I recommend the cheapest 2666mhz or 3000mhz you can find.  Other than that, I agree that you might want to upgrade your SSD. Everything else seems solid. Make sure that CPU receives good airflow if you OC though.

Brands don't matter. All the companies you've listed have made, or currently make models that are very terrible. EVGA even makes a IMO, fire hazard.

80+ ratings don't matter, in terms of quality. At the price point, I think he could afford a Gold unit, plus electricity is hella expensive in the EU.

550W would give you a ton of headroom... That build would use 400W at most.

450W units like the Corsair CX450 (non-modular) and CX450M (semi-modular) are very good budget units that are more than sufficient for the described build.

If a little more capacity is desired then some good choices are Seasonic Focus Gold 550 (semi-modular), Seasonic Focus Gold Plus 550 (modular), Seasonic Focus Plus Platinum 550 (modular, if good pricing), Corsair RMx550 (modular), Corsair TX550M Gold (semi-modular), Evga G3 550W (modular), Evga G2 550W (modular).

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

normal = all the cords are attached to the unit and are not removable, including ones you dont need (makes spaghetti of cables that needs to be hidden and routed)

semi = 24 pin and 4 pin cpu (ones you will always use) is attached, and all the rest are removable

modular = all cords can be detached for easiest cable routing.

So non-modular would be all the cables fixed to the PSU

semi-modular is some fixed some socketed

fully modular is all socketed

Non-modular: -CP-9020118-NA-Gallery-VS-500-03.png

semi modular: -CP-9020130-NA-Gallery-TX850M-01.png

  • Non-modular: all power cables are fixed and cannot be removed from the psu. In most gaming/desktop systems leads to a bundle of cables that are not used.
  • Semi-modular: always used power cables are fixed, (typically only various motherboard power connections, sometimes a SATA power cable), others are plugged in as needed. PSU always comes with a full complement of cables.
  • Modular: all cables are removable. Makes it a little easier to route cables when assembling a system. PSU always comes with a full complement of cables.

but it's a good price, so might as well

i just remembered this site where you can see like every psu in that price range :)

http://www.pricerunner.dk/cl/640/Stroemforsyninger?price_max=900&price_min=300&s_58084610=500_850

if you see any other that would be good and might be cheaper :)
