Samsung Steam Link

so my dad bought a new 4k curved tv on sale and while viewing the apps i can put in the tv, i saw steam link.. i know steam link is used to stream steam from my pc to the tv.. i just got curious on how i would get a controller to work.. do i need it still plugged to my pc (its in a different room) or do i just plug a controller to the tv itself?

Thats super cool. Be great if they offered a similar thing with Android TV.
