Hi, I have been thinking about doing a 2 Gamers 1 CPU Build like Linus did for a couple of years now. I have now racked together enough money to build one. The parts I have though about getting are listed below.

CPU: Ryzen 1800x

CPU Cooler: ?

Motherboard: ?

GPU: 2 1060's/1070's

RAM: ? (How much would I need?)

Case: NZXT S340 Elite

Power Supply: ? (How much power am I going to need?)

The places that have questions marks next to them, I don't know what to put with them. If you guys could give some recommendations with what parts I should get could you please tell me. Also I want to make this computer as cheap as possible, while still getting good performance from the CPU and GPU.  Also I've read that UnRaid doesn't need a dedicated graphics card. Is this true?

I would say for the two GPUs 750 watt

I don't have much experience with vms but I would at least get 6-8gb (depends on the games) for each vm and then again 6-8 for the main pc, but I would watch Linus video he explains it a bit there. For the CPU cooler you can go for what you want as long as it's decent, I would got for a dark rock 3 pro or if you want to get a aio a h100iv2

If you want to save money get a r7 1700(X) and oc it to the 1800x clocks

For the motherboard I sadly can't help you right now

Firstly don't get the 1800X, 1700 performs just as well. Secondly, don't get any Ryzen haha - I mean, Ryzen 2 is like 4 weeks away with April 19th the rumoured release date. Following that also wait for X470 motherboards as they will be landing at the same time. For ram id go with 32gb, Ive seen my ram usage at 11gb in Final Fantasy 15. A good 800W PSU should be plenty

Ryzen is a pain for this system and use case due to how it does passthrough, 8700 is better here as has a igpu

id go 32gb of ram if you can, it will work with 16 though.

Really though 2 systems are cheaper and faster, This is a pain and not supported well.

750-850W PSU will do the trick.

32Gb RAM is strongly recommended.

For CPU cooler, a good air or liquid cooler will work. I would also recommend going with a Ryzen 1700 if you're going to go Ryzen at all.

You need 3 GPUs to passthrough 2 to VMs. UnRAID needs a GPU too. I’d go for a 8700 at least, or get a cheapo GT710.

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro

Just now, NelizMastr said:

you don't need that 3rd gpu, but it makes it much easier to setup. You can tell linux to not use any gpu in grub options, and just use the serial console or network.
