So, I'm buying a new cooler for my cpu and I have friend whos dad is a technican, so he said I could use some of the thermal paste they use there to cool the machines. The thermal paste is made to handle 800-900°C(1472-1652°F). So, my question is, can I get any problems with the Cpu for using this thermal paste? Maybe a stupid question, but I'm a just afraid that I will break the Cpu.. I didn't find something on Google either.

I didn't really know where to put this, so I just put it in Cpus, Motherboards and memory.

It shouldn't cause problems. The paste does not react chemically with the CPU in any way, it just aids in heat transfer between the block and CPU so as long as it is non conductive, it won't dry up, or seep into the socket (which all thermal paste won't do) it should be fine.

Simple:

Ask him to ask his dad if it's conductive. If not, awesome. If so, don't use it.

Then ask him to ask his dad what it's efficiency is at 40-90C. If low, don't use it. If high, use it.

Then ask him to ask his dad if it is a solid or a liquid (paste or wtv) at 40-90C. If it is a solid, don't use it. If it is a liquid, use it.

Don't use it.

Industrial paste for large machines will be way to thick and cause more issues than needed.

Just use the stock paste that comes preapplied to the cooler.

it should be fine but i would rather use CPU thermal paste because i have no clue what's in that industrial thermal paste and thermal paste is so cheap you can get a tube for under 5$ at any computer store.

I haven't decided yet, I'm thinkig of IC Diamond if I can find it here in Sweden. He actually used it in his Ps3, it died 1 month later.. He had it for 8 years.. Seems like a little weird coincidence.

It should be okay but as already stated industrial thermal paste for large machinery is not intended to be used with CPU's. You will most likely (depending on the type) get higher temperatures than with standard thermal paste, in any case there is no way you will be getting lower temperatures with industrial thermal paste. It is not in any way the same stuff we use with CPUs. That being said most CPU coolers come with a tube of thermal paste by the manufacturer, so you shouldn't need to buy anything anyways.

If you are actually going to buy thermal paste I can only recommend Arctic Silver 5, there is a reason it's been the standard for many years.

Thanks for the tip, I'll take a look at it.

Well i don't know about the PS3 but I know for a fact it was never intended to be opened by a consumer.
