well today my 750gb seagate barracuda died, I bought it in early 2010 so no warranty for me, but I am super surprised, my older (2006ish) seagate 320gb drive that my os is on outlived this one. any ideas on how to get it to fire back up for data recovery, it has all of my music and videos on it. It still spins up, it just will not come up in drive management or bios, so I think it is the I/O board on the hdd.

You can try freezing it. I've never personally done it but from what I've read it seems to work.

http://howto.wired.com/wiki/Save_Your_Hard_Drive_by_Freezing_It

freezing only works if the heads are stuck to the platter, when I power my drive on I can hear it spin up and the heads seek but after that nothing. and it does not have the click of doom or whatever.

I have seen a buddy pull the controller of an identical drive to replace a failed one to get data back. I honestly think he was more lucky then anything else, but would be something to try - if you have an identical drive. If not, probably out of luck.

Have you just tried a different Sata cable or sata port? Or different power lead? Might be something wonky there...

Have you tried getting the HD to pull up on another computer? If that doesn't work then more than likely you have an issue with the controller board. Your other option is sending it in to a hard drive recovering facility but that can get pricey

I have tried it on 2 other pc's with the same results., but I heard that a firmware bug in this model of drive can cause it to become bricked.

Only if its a .11 series Seagate HD. If you have a .11 series, you can look on the Seagate website to see if your HD is one of the ones with the faulty firmware

Having absolutely no idea what model HD you have take this with a word of caution. Seagate pushed a firmware update for about half of the 7200 .11 series drives and in some cases the firmware update fixed drive problems associated with the 7200.11 drives. You should look and see if your HD's model number is covered under this http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/207951en That's assuming you can get the firmware on the drive controller.:( have you downloaded Seatools to see if it can see it by chance ?

my drive is the ST3750330AS which is covered by that fix, but will this work if my computer is not picking up my drive? as I understand it there were two problems, one would cause the drive to be picked up as 0gb, and one would cause drive to not be picked up at all. and I either have the latter or my drive has outright failed.

If Seatools wont pick the drive up then no I don't think there is a way to re-flash it. as a last resort you can try this http://www.overclock.net/t/457286/seagate-bricked-firmware-drive-fix-with-pics
