i7 dies for no reason

Pretty sure my i7 6700k just died for no reason wooooh     I checked my mother board manual since there was a red led on the it said it was for the cpu so does this mean my cpu is just dead or what?

I got a aio water cooler and temps have always been fine power supply is corsair 850 gtx 1080.

Dont think theres any chance of waranty since i bought the cpu with a prebuilt pc which since i have upgraded so ya.

I used to have it badly overclocked for a while but after i bought a new motherboard i didnt have anything on it.

The thing that pissed me off the most was i was playing PUBG and i had an ak and scar fully stacked lol.

it just made a click sound through my headset and froze everything now it wont boot

So does anyone have any info that could help me? should i just order a new cpu right now? thanks

does your board post?

if so, try downclocking the CPU to like 1.5GHZ and see if itll start windows.  Depending on the OC you had, it may have degraded the chip so it cant clock at stock frequencies and remain stable.

Linux Daily Driver:

CPU: R5 2400G

Motherboard: MSI B350M Mortar

RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4

HDD: 1TB POS HDD from an old Dell

SSD: 256GB WD Black NVMe M.2

Case: Phanteks Mini XL DS

PSU: 1200W Corsair HX1200

Gaming Rig:

CPU: i7 6700K @ 4.4GHz

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z270-N Wi-Fi ITX

RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4

GPU: Asus Turbo GTX 1070 @ 2GHz

HDD: 3TB Toshiba something or other

SSD: 512GB WD Black NVMe M.2

Case: Shared with Daily - Phanteks Mini XL DS

PSU: Shared with Daily - 1200W Corsair HX1200

Server

CPU: Ryzen7 1700

Motherboard: MSI X370 SLI Plus

do you have a different skylake cpu or board to check it with?

that could isolate the issue

modern intel chips are very good at not dying randomly like this

There are two methods, you could unplug the system and remove the cmos battery for a minute, or you can short the cmos reset pins (higher end motherboards have a switch for it cheaper ones require you to use a piece of metal, computer should be in off state for this)

Cmos battery image for reference (i reccommend this method if you have a lower end board or one without a switch in general)

Image result for cmos battery

https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/631048-psu-tier-list-updated/ Tier Breakdown (My understanding)--1 Godly, 2 Great, 3 Good, 4 Average, 5 Meh, 6 Bad, 7 Awful

There's usually a jumper on the board, if not you can just pull the battery out. Unplug it, cycle the power a few times to eliminate any remaining electricity in the motherboard, remove battery/jumper for a few seconds. This will reset CMOS.
