Hey there, so i have got this sweet deal for buying an Intel i5-4690 CPU for 225 euros ( totally new btw). I have a MSI B85-G41 PC Mate motherboard, 1050ti GPU and 12gb of RAM. Oh and my current CPU is an Intel i3-4170. I am in need of an upgrade for the CPU and was wondering if that i5 was good for 1080p gaming with my setup. Oh and please don`t propose buying a new motherboard because i am not able to do that at the moment. Thanks.

Upgrade yes... but 225 Euros seems awfully over priced... for a CPU that is 3 generations old now...

Ryzen 3 2200G performs the same as the i5 4690 bu costs only $99...

You can literally buy that + new motherboard and it will be cheaper than just getting that i5 and you can sell your i3 and motherboard and you will have basically almost free upgrade.

Then dont buy the i5 4690 and just wait till you can get a new motherboard as well.

Even the newest i5 8400 which is almost twice as powerfull as the i5 4690 doesent cost that much.

Doesent matter. Either he gets old overpriced medicore CPU or newer better and cheaper CPU but pays more for RAM. Heck, even i3 8100 is better and is half the price of the i5 4690.

And he can sell what he have now to get some money back.

I've got that CPU and I play fine at 1080p high/ultra settings. I've got a 1060 6gb.. I average at 65-70 fps

So? Its not worth 225€ now when you can get better CPU AND new motherboard with it for the same price or cheaper + selling the old HW will give you enough money to buy DDR4 and maybe leave you with some extra € in the pocket.
